Book Birdhouse Tutorial

I’ve had several request for a tutorial on this birdhouse. Enjoy and get ready to fold , fold, fold!

I used an old hymnal but you could use any book. The more pages the fuller it will be. You will need to remove the cover. Sorry no photos. I usually take a razor and slit down the inside of the cover.

The first fold will be to take the top corner and fold it into the center spine. All pages will start with this fold. Then take the outer edge and fold towards the spine. This will be the first of the alternating pages.
Again, the first fold for the second page starts as the first. Then take the bottom corner and fold it up to the center of the spine. These two pages will be alternated for the whole project. After you get several pages done it should start to look like this. After folding for what seems like forever, you’ll end up with this.If you want your birdhouse to hang now is the time to hot glue a rope of desired length down the center of the spine. Then glue the first and last pages together. I then use a circle punch and cut out half circles on several pages to make the hole. You could just paint a circle.I then paint that area black. The final touches are adding raftia to the hole and on the roof. I also add some paper birds that I make and wad up blue paper to make little eggs. Here’s a last look at the completed project. Happy Folding!

Book Bird House

I’m always looking for new ways to re-purpose old books. This one was great fun. Lots and lots of folding but the end reward is always worth it!

The picture doesn’t show it but I glued a long piece of jute down the center before putting  it together. This way it can hang as well.
Adding a couple of bird cut outs, some eggs, and moss finished off the look quite well. Don’t tell but the little eggs are just waded up pieces of paper!

Photos from the show

The show last weekend was soooo much fun! I loved the ladies who sold their wares along side of me. I loved seeing someone take home something I created. Here are some photos. We had such a nice size space and mixed everything together mostly.

There was jewelry, antiques, one of a kind pieces, scentsy candles, pillows, sachets, purses, so many goodies!!

I had to borrow this ladder from my daughter Megan for display purposes. She has it in the corner of her room with all of her Winnie The Pooh collection on it.  I displayed my magnet boards along with little salt shaker flower arrangements, and such.

Here’s my Husker card display

Another display of cards.

I loved this fun way to display my vintage bookmarks. I used an old dictionary. Also in this picture you can see my bird nest, fairy jar, and little containers with flowers.

I thought this was a fun way to display my spring tags.

Another display of magnets and my paper birds.

Well, if you missed it. You can get most all of these items at Simply Bungalow. And their will definitely be future shows.
