Weddings

Lately, I’ve had a few wedding orders for a variety of projects. They have been super fun! I LOVE working with brides! So, I thought it was time for a post of some of those projects.

First off the flowers. My latest bride wanted her groom to be special so he gets a vintage music boutonniere and the groomsmen get vintage book boutonnieres. The moms and grandmas get these pretty brooch corsages.Another wedding had these yummy yellow flowers.

I am in love with the idea of these hangers. This bride wants her photo of the dresses hanging to be special. It also makes a great gift for the bridesmaids. How about a vintage guest book? Then there the  decorations. These were at my son’s wedding so they were extra special to make.I’ve been so inspired I think I may try my hand at more. Nothing is more special than a wedding. Well, maybe the babies coming. Hmmmm. A whole new project set to think about.

Book Birdhouse Tutorial

I’ve had several request for a tutorial on this birdhouse. Enjoy and get ready to fold , fold, fold!

I used an old hymnal but you could use any book. The more pages the fuller it will be. You will need to remove the cover. Sorry no photos. I usually take a razor and slit down the inside of the cover.

The first fold will be to take the top corner and fold it into the center spine. All pages will start with this fold. Then take the outer edge and fold towards the spine. This will be the first of the alternating pages.
Again, the first fold for the second page starts as the first. Then take the bottom corner and fold it up to the center of the spine. These two pages will be alternated for the whole project. After you get several pages done it should start to look like this. After folding for what seems like forever, you’ll end up with this.If you want your birdhouse to hang now is the time to hot glue a rope of desired length down the center of the spine. Then glue the first and last pages together. I then use a circle punch and cut out half circles on several pages to make the hole. You could just paint a circle.I then paint that area black. The final touches are adding raftia to the hole and on the roof. I also add some paper birds that I make and wad up blue paper to make little eggs. Here’s a last look at the completed project. Happy Folding!

Catching Up.

I’ve  been absent in the blog world for too long. Here are some projects that have been in the works lately. Pinwheels are so fun for summer don’t you thinkEach one can have it’s own personality with different colors. The same holds true for these little boxes. It is fun decorating each one in a unique way. My favorite new creation is this book wreath!Sometimes creativity comes in the form of events and food. Throwing a wedding shower for my future daughter in law gave me that opportunity. It was my first attempt at petite fours and sugar coating my pansies. Again, a lot of work but the end result was “sweet!”I’m hoping to put some tutorials on soon. The birdhouse has been requested and perhaps the pinwheels and wreath might be fun as well. Throw in your 2 cents worth and leave a comment to let me know what you think.

Book Bird House

I’m always looking for new ways to re-purpose old books. This one was great fun. Lots and lots of folding but the end reward is always worth it!

The picture doesn’t show it but I glued a long piece of jute down the center before putting  it together. This way it can hang as well.
Adding a couple of bird cut outs, some eggs, and moss finished off the look quite well. Don’t tell but the little eggs are just waded up pieces of paper!
